5th October 2024, St. Jacob’s Forane Church Pulluvila celebrated the Golden Jubilee (50 years) of the presence of the Sisters of the Divine Saviour (SDS) at fishing village Pulluvila in the south of India. All the arrangements for the programmes (inviting guests, decoration, banner making, liturgy preparation and food arrangements...) was done by the persons who worked with our sisters and the children and youth who were taken care by our sisters.
Rev. Fr. Antony SB the parish priest of St. Jacob’s Forane Church Pulluvila wrote about our sisters in his invitation letter:
“We witness or heard our parents and fore fathers saying that our village Pulluvila has sensed the fragrance of development and culture from a very early age when we consider the other fisher folk communities in the coastal zone of Thiruvananthapuram District.
There are many Socio-Cultural Organization, Sports and Arts Clubs, Social and Political Workers, Renowned Priests and Religious Institutions that paved the seed of growth.
The congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Saviour built a house and settled at our village on 31st of August 1974. It was to serve us with the Feet and hands of Jesus Christ. Since then, they started Dispensary, Balavedi, Nursery School, Vanithakendram, Society for fishermen, Sisters of the Divine Saviour Financial Programmes, counseling centre, Self Employment Projects for Women, Educational support, Financial Aids, food and clothes for the poor, Seminars, Awareness classes and so on…
Their feet cleansed the squalor ambushed everywhere in the village…..their hands hugged the patients and the old aged alike…Their minds soothed the children and the families…Their words provoked the youth to the truth and just… Their presence awakened all walks of our life….They reformed us to live highly.
In this Golden Jubilee year of the arrival of these “Sisters of the Divine Saviour”, It is the obligation of the whole Parishners to offer a Thanks giving Pontifical Mass to God on behalf of this sisters and pray for them”.
Most Rev. Thomas Netto Arch Bishop of Trvandrum Archdiocese concelebrated the Holy Eucharist. Many priests and well wishes were present for the programme. There was felicitation ceremony.
As 50 years of living in Pulluvila pass by, the people there have experienced the taste and smell of selfless service and the unconditional love of sisters.
