In May 1938 the bishop of Jujuy, a diocese in the northwest of Argentina in the frontier area with Bolivia and Chile, came to Europe to attend  to the Eucharistic World Congress in Budapest. When he travelled through Vienna he stayed in the former motherhouse of the Viennese congregation in Kaiserstrasse. The General Superior willingly responded to the request of the Argentine bishop and sent sisters for cultural and social activities and services to his diocese.  On the fourth of December 1938 5 sisters arrived in the provincial capital San Salvador de Jujuy.

The bishop assigned them the chapel of Santa Barbara for instauration and ongoing servicing. Next to the chapel a dwelling house for the sisters and a nursery were built. In the following 20 years this nursery developed into the Instituto Santa Barbara including a primary school and senior classes of grammar school.

In 1988 a similar institution of education was established in the areas of Alto Comedero  in the suburb of San Salvador de Jujuy. The “Instituto Divino Redentor” was especially intended fo children of very poor families.

From the year 2000 onwards training opportunities for grownups were offered, to be specific the apprenticeship as a tailor, as an electrician or as a plumber…

At present the delegation of Argentina comprises 18 sisters, coming from Austria, Argentina and Bolivia. In the past years 2 sisters arrived from India.

Location and nature of mission:

San Salvador de Jujuy:

* School “Santa Bárbara” (about 1150 pupils)

* School “Divino Redentor”: 1050 of the 1650 pupils get breakfast (morning cycle) or an in-between-meal(afternoon cycle). 400 pupils even get a main meal. Apart from that a team of experts in psychology or social work  offers an advisory service.

In the parishes sisters work  in health-care, they are involved with family catechesis and youth pastoral.

Metan (Province of Salta)
In the „Comedor“(dining hall)  200 children and the employees who work in the dining hall, receive  a main meal and  an afternoon snack from Monday until Saturday. Children who have difficulties at school receive are offered private lessons

Due to the fact that the sisters get donations and that the poor come and seek for help. Their house becomes a centre of caritas. In the parish the sisters are responsible for services in church or liturgy.

Córdoba:
In one parish two sisters help in the registry and are in liturgical service such as administering the holy sacrament or preparing people for the sacrament of confession and the anointing of the sick…

Together with the sisters many committed lay people serve in the spirit of our foundress in the  institutions mentioned above.
